It’s no secret that I love Benchcrafted products. I recommend their bench vises without any reservations and have them installed on almost all of our workbenches in our workshop.

When Benchcrafted released its Hi Vise, I immediately bought the hardware and almost immediately got insanely busy with something else and stashed the hardware away. This year we got it out and built the Hi Vise, and it is an absolute joy to have in the shop.

It clamps anywhere. I’ve transformed my 15” planer into a workbench with the Hi Vise. It raises your work up to a nice level for detail work. When fussing with chair parts, for example, it’s great to have the armbow right in my face. The Hi Vise does this with great ease.

It’s great for holding assembled items. Because it’s not permanently attached to a bench, you can clamp it to the corner of your bench and hold really weird stuff – like an assembled stool or chair.

Because of the Hi Vise, it’s honestly great to have one more answer to the question: How am I gonna hold that?

Like all Benchcrafted products, the Hi Vise hardware is well made. You just have to supply the wood (we used maple). Yes, it’s a bit expensive compared to other benchtop vises, but it’s the best. Really. Get one.
