woodwright's shopCalling All Tool Geeks! Roy Underhill has your number in Season 32.

I have a hard time coming up with interesting new ideas for dinner, so I’m always in awe when Roy manages to pull together another 13 episodes of “The Woodwright’s Shop” that are clever, informative and new! Season 32 is all of that and darn entertaining to boot.

My favorite episodes are for the tool geeks (and I know there’s a bunch of you out there) – Roy spends time looking at at foot-powered woodworking machinery, and I’ve got to tell you, he makes foot power look like a decent alternative to plugging things in! Bill Anderson shows how to create the classic rule joint or drop-leaf joint, and believe it or not he’s got a foot-powered “router table” to keep the theme going!

It’s not all about wood though. Roy also shows off a very cool screw-cutting metal lathe that is, of course, foot powered. Christopher Schwarz stops by for a couple of episodes for an in-depth look at the “anarchist’s tool chest” – including how it’s made and what tools fit inside – then talks about a two-screw vise that’s designed as a bench accessory, not part of the bench itself (you can see a snippet of that episode below).

If you’re not feeling foot-powered tools and machines, never fear. There are also visits from familiar faces, Peter Follansbee (building two cool projects), Mary May (who takes Roy to school with a great introduction to carving) and Peter Ross (discussing the types and how-to of holdfasts) and much more!

It’s never a dull moment with Roy, and darn it all, I still manage to learn something too! Check out “The Woodwright’s Shop,” Season 32 today.
