Do You Tend To Create Better at Night? Then You Need This!
Some people are just born for the night. They feel more productive at night and are more comfortable with their surroundings during this time. If you feel like you’re one such person, then you may find it difficult to start and continue with projects during the day. So, if you’re able to make the adjustment, you should consider changing your sleep cycle so that you’re able to work more at night.
But the night brings along a new set of challenges, and this can prove to be difficult to work around if you’re so used to creating in the day. With these useful tools and appliances, however, you won’t have to worry as much.
THINGS TO GET FOR THE NIGHT OWL WOODWORKER
A light
Of course, you can’t do any sort of work while in the dark, and while you can make use of the natural sunlight entering your workshop during the day, you’re on your own at night. As such, you’ll need a steady and reliable source of light to work with, and not just any light will do. The first thing that may have popped up in your head was to turn on, say, a lightbulb, but lightbulbs are terrible for focused work. Depending on your positioning, your head or back may block the light, preventing it from shining on your desk. And even if it doesn’t, the light isn’t focused enough to see clearly.
To work safely and reliably, you’ll need focused light for your workspace. A simple lamp should do the trick, but if you’re willing to invest a bit of money, consider trying out a clamp light. These devices clamp directly onto your desk, saving you space and you can even adjust the light to face any way you want. This allows you to see every nook and cranny without actually holding the light up with your hands.
Soundproofing
This may seem unnecessary for some people, but if you live with close neighbors and thin walls, you may need to invest in some soundproofing. While your neighbors may be fine with the noise you make during the day, they may not be able to get a good night’s rest if you work at night. To ensure that you don’t disturb anyone while you toil away at night, you need to either work more quietly or install some sort of soundproofing in your work area.
Earbuds or earphones
Some of you may enjoy working with some music playing in the background. Having music while you work can keep things interesting, and you can hum along to the tunes as you work away. You can still do this at night, of course, but with a little more restraint. Using loudspeakers or a radio probably isn’t a good idea, as other people may hear you while you play it from your workspace. By plugging in a pair of earbuds or earphones, you can listen to all the tunes without disturbing a soul.
Working at night is something that all woodworkers should try out at least once. Sure, it may not be the best for your schedule, but the experience itself is quite relaxing. If you think that the nightlife suits you more, these handy little additions to your workspace will ensure you have the right environment to work and create in.
