Here I am starting the fabrication of the upper parts of the kitchen hutches. I cut the uprights to their approximate length at the radial arm saw. It would be hazardous to cut such long pieces (8’) at the tablesaw. The radial arm saw is the ideal tool for these cuts. Of course a portable circular saw can be used, but the setup would take more time.
To cut the uprights to the same dimensions, and square, I’m using my shopmade panel cutter.
TIP
Being to short, the back fence of my panel cutter doesn’t give me any possibility to mark the location where to make identical cut lengths. I could use a tape measure, but there’s a risk for error and the pencil mark is not very much precise. So, I’m adding wood scraps to elongate the fence and to add a stop block. Doing so, my pieces will be the same length. First, I cut one end at 90°, then move the stop block to its final position and make the final cuts to length.
