Getting the Point

I frequently use awls in my work and like to keep them needle-sharp. This little jig takes only a few minutes to make and guarantees a fine, tapered point. The magnets keep the jig securely in place while in use.

My Take

Judging from the "down" arrow on the illustration, it looks like you should apply downward pressure to the awl's shank as you're turning it. Seems like that might not be necessary if the holes were sized to fit the awl, but just large enough so that you could easily turn it. Am I missing something?
