We’ve just launched the full website for Woodworking in America 2016, September 16-18 in Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati, and registration is now open (early bird rates through June 10).
This year, we’re delighted to welcome back some familiar faces (Roy Underhill, Mary May, Alf Sharp, Christopher Schwarz, Marc Adams, Wilbur Pan, Freddy Roman, James Hamilton, George Walker, ), as well as some woodworkers and tool makers (and one SketchUp guru) who will be teaching sessions for us for the first time: Caleb James, Nancy Hiller, Konrad Sauer, Shannon Rogers, Raney Nelson, Matt Cremona, Zachary Dillinger, Joe Zeh – and Yoav Liberman (I just talked to him this weekend…he’ll be added to the schedule soon in those two empty slots on Saturday).
Sessions cover a huge range of woodworking interests, from case construction to acanthus carving, from harvesting your own lumber to how to design built-ins, from making chairs without chairmaking tools to Chinese furniture. And, because we have some of the best planemakers on the planet speaking this year, we’ve a special Planemaker’s Roundtable on Saturday afternoon, featuring Konrad Sauer, Raney Nelson, Caleb James, Terry Saunders of Lee Valley and Thomas Lie-Nielsen; the discussion will be moderated by Christopher Schwarz.
Late Friday afternoon/early evening, the Marketplace will be open to attendees only (appetizers and drinks provided…OK, one drink, but there will be a cash bar as well, I believe).
Saturday night, we’ve a special add-on event: a guided tour of the pre-prohibition breweries of Cincinnati – a fascinating look at the tunnels, cellars and breweries that are a part of Cincinnati’s history (there are coopered barrels…there’s the woodworking connection. But really, the cellars and tunnels are just uber-cool). Space is limited for the tour, so if you’re interested, I recommend signing up quickly.
Woodworking in America and Oktoberfest Zinzinnati share the same weekend this year, so there’s plenty going on in downtown Cincinnati (basically, a big street party celebrating beer), just a short walk across the bridge from the conference site. In other words, it’s going to be an excellent weekend to be in Greater Cincinnati. I’ll see you here, I hope.
