Winners in the seventh annual Veneer Tech Craftsman’s Challenge have been announced. This is the second time around for me to serve as a judge in this contest, and it was a challenge for me and the other judges to settle on the best among a diverse group of outstanding entries. Here’s a link to previous posts, and a look at the Grand Prize winner and Cabinetry category winner, the interior of an 81-foot sport fishing boat made by Paul Mann Custom Boats of Manns Harbor, N.C. The matched cherry veneers wrap around almost all of the interior surfaces.
In the Furniture category, first prize was awarded to Craig Thibodeau, of San Diego, Calif.

In the Specialty Items category we decided to award first prize to two entrants. Rob Milam of Atlanta, Ga., won last year for a marquetry portrait, and a new work in this style again earned him top honors.
Paul Schurch, of Santa Barbara, Calif., also was declared a co-winner in this category for his creative use of veneer.
