My sister sent me this link of a speech by Steve Jobs at Stanford University. Jobs, the Apple co-founder and former CEO passed away yesterday after battling a rare form of pancreatic cancer. We use Apple machines here at the magazine, and I’ve always been a huge fan of Pixar films. And Stanford has a huge Redwood tree on their logo, in case you are wondering about the connection of this post to wood.

Thanks for that excellent quote Jonathan.
“When you’re a carpenter making a beautiful chest of drawers, you’re not going to use a piece of plywood on the back, even though it faces the wall and nobody will ever see it. You’ll know it’s there, so you’re going to use a beautiful piece of wood on the back. For you to sleep well at night, the aesthetic, the quality, has to be carried all the way through.” – Steve Jobs, 1955-2011
