On May 7, 2014, we’re going to give you a chance to act like an editor for Popular Woodworking Magazine for the evening. That’s right, we’re going to let you (and a limited number of other folks) come into the workshop here at the magazine and test some of the newest tools from Senco.
Can you tell me more about what’s going on?
We’re hosting the event for Senco to give our readers a chance to try some of the best fastening tools on the market. And they’re made right here in the Cincinnati area. You’ll not only get to test pinners, nailers and staplers, but you’ll also get to see how they work with Senco’s air compressors. (On hand will be representatives from Senco, plus the PWM editors. And I’ve even heard a rumor that American Woodworker will be represented by Glen Huey that evening.)
The Senco folks are introducing you to their tools and showing you how they work. You’ll then have some time to actually use the tools on real wood so you can get a feel for what they can do. The editors will help answer questions and provide general comic relief (think Al Bundy and Jefferson D’arcy).
And when is this happening?
The whole thing takes place in the space of one evening, May 7 from 6:30-9 p.m. We’ll be providing some food and refreshments; Senco will provide the tools and door prizes. Yep, I said, door prizes, plural.
Now that you’ve piqued my interest, what’s this about prizes?
A few lucky attendees will go home with a PC1010N compressor, a 23LXP pinner (with fastners) or both. An even luckier few, five to be exact, will win a special Senco factory tour with the editors of Popular Woodworking Magazine and American Woodworker. There’s also going to be Senco swag for everyone.
How do I attend?
There’s a limited number of people who can attend and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. The only way you can register is to send me an e-mail at chuck.bender@fwmedia.com and let me know how many will be attending (that’s right, you can bring your spouse, a friend and/or a sibling or in-law as long as they’re registered). I will respond whether you are registered or not. When/if we run out of space, I’ll put you on a waiting list. And I’ll update this post with a notice if/when the event is full up.
Children under 18 are permitted to attend, but only with parental (or legal guardian) supervision. Note that participants will need to sign a waiver upon arrival (not that we’ll allow you to use the tools in an unsafe manner, you understand).
Where is this taking place?
The whole thing is happening here in the Popular Woodworking Magazine offices and workshop. The address is 8469 Blue Ash Rd., Suite 100, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45223. If you search the address on the web using popular mapping sites, it will put you in front of our building – but the best place to park is around the back in our lot. To get there, turn onto either Kugler Mill or Sycamore Road. Once you cross the railroad tracks, Vorhees will be the first right turn from Kugler Mill, the first left turn from Sycamore – the entrance to our parking lot is about midway along the block. The door to the shop is just inside the gate.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. It’s our way of letting readers get into the shop and test some of the newest tools on the market. If you think along the lines of the recent Lie-Nielsen Hand Tool Event – but with power cords…and air hoses…no outside vendors…and a limited number of attendees…OK, it’s not the same at all, but it’s still going to loads of fun.
Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.
On May 7, 2014, 6:30-9 p.m., Senco will be bringing some of their newest tools to the Popular Woodworking Magazine shop for a limited number of people to test. There will be food, refreshments and prizes. You need to register to attend and you do that by sending an e-mail to chuck.bender@fwmedia.com. You will be notified whether you are actually registered or not. You can register more than just yourself but I need names and e-mail addresses for all registrants. You might win some tools, you might win a special tour of the Senco factory with the PWM editors – but you won’t win anything if you don’t register and attend.
