Elia Bizzarri

From left to right, Gil McNeil, Elia Bizzarri, Justin Stiles and Ben Riesser.

It won’t come as much of a surprise that woodworkers are frequently good at more than one thing. Sometimes it’s necessary, other times it’s just for fun. I was in Hillsborough, N.C., last week working with Elia Bizzarri on two new videos and we started talking about what music to use. He asked if we’d like him and a few of his friends to play something. “Yes!” was the easy answer, and so one evening three of his pals came over and we were treated to an impromptu jam session.

Impressed, jealous and most certainly entertained are the words that come to mind. They sounded great (the acoustics in his shop are excellent!) and we were smart enough to turn the cameras on. I’ve posted a short unedited video (below) of one of their songs as they were warming up, but I promise we’ll add a real music video to one of his upcoming full-length videos (one on making a great little table almost exclusively on the shaving horse, and another that gives great instruction on using milk paint finishes on furniture).

I did mention multi-talented, right? Yes, he can play the guitar, but we find Elia’s woodworking pretty impressive, too. If you can’t wait till June for his new video, take a look at his “Build a Traditional Windsor Rocker” video.
