Mark your
calendars and start saving your pennies. The 2011 Woodworking in America
event will be Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, 2011, in Covington, Ky., at the same
facility we used in 2010 (The Northern Kentucky Convention Center).
We have already started planning the
conference, which seems loony, but we really want to make this year’s
event even better than 2010. I’ve started contacting some potential
speakers already – though I have no news to report there. And we are
coming up with ideas for the conference.
Here are a few we’re
chewing on – don’t hold me to them. Except for the date of the
conference, everything else is as malleable as Silly Putty.
•
Instead of holding a keynote dinner, which was getting too big to do
well, we’re considering supplying lunch on-site for attendees and having
a series of smaller optional dinners available, like the very
successful “Feast of Andre Roubo” we held in 2010.
• Re-organizing the Marketplace to ensure the noise is greatly reduced.
• Expanding the Marketplace to bring in more vintage tool dealers (more on that later).
• Providing every attendee with a hamster skull.

I am in favor of all your suggested changes. The dinner last year was just too big – it was difficult to see or hear the speakers and the food was lousy. The series of smaller dinners sounds great. The hamster skull will be greatly appreciated as well.

I had a great time at WIA 2010; Covington is a great town and Im hoping to bring the family next year; really, this is my first post and having not traveled to much in the middle states (Having traveled extensively outside the U.S. though) I had an exceptional time; baseball game, gators Ice cream, the rib place (forgot the name), the pub crawl, etc.
Great Location as far as Im concerned…
Darn it, now the cost of hamster skulls on eBay is going through the roof …

I have yet been able to make it to a WIA show :(. I hope 2011 will be the year, that work doesn’t get in the way!
