Skinner Auctioneers, in Marlborough, Mass., has an astounding collection of Shaker pieces from the Andrews Shaker Collection up for sale in a June 15 auction.

Unfortunately, the pieces to which I am particularly drawn are estimated to go for far more than my car would be worth brand new – bells, whistles, undercoating and extended warranty included. So, I’m looking at the pieces in this auction as a source of inspiration, and encourage you to do the same. Click through the link above to take a look.

p.s. We recently collected 31 Shaker pieces from the magazine into one book: “Shaker Furniture Projects.” (Perhaps in a future edition you’ll see a piece or two inspired by the Andrews Collection…I quite like the “pan” cupboard, schoolhouse cupboard and loom bench.)

    Jennie here
Years ago Joyce and I visited the active Shaker Commuity at Sabbathday Lake
a number of times. Unknown to us one of our visits was during an open
house for collectors. It was a very busy day! Sister Mildred looked about
and said, “They think we are chairs.” We smiled in agreement. But, we too
were originally drawn to visit by the chairs. We were blessed to stay and visit the Shakers.
