June 1st is the deadline for submitting your entry to this year’s Veneer Tech Craftsman’s Challenge. This annual contest seeks the best veneer work, and prizes are awarded to the craftsperson who makes the piece, and also to the supplier of the veneer used in the grand prize winning entry, as well as the sales representative for that veneer. I served as a judge for last years contest, and I’m looking forward to again being part of the jury in this year’s contest. Here is a link to a series of previous posts about the contest, and the process of making veneer.

If you want to take part, get busy and get your digital camera dusted off. You can enter the contest online, and judging is based on the submitted photos and written description of the work.

Even if you don’t plan on entering, take a visit to the contest website for a look at this year’s entries, and winners from previous years.

This is a picture of the winning entry in the student category from 2011, a folding chair by Christy Oates. Here is a link to a video showing how the chair unfolds from the wall art, and here is a link to a video that shows how the chair was made.
