The Fine Woodworking program at the College of the Redwoods in Fort Bragg, California has announced that Laura Mays, a 2003 graduate of the woodworking program will replace Michael Burns as director. The school is most closely associated with James Krenov, but Burns has served as an instructor and administrator, leading hundreds of graduates through this unique curriculum. He is retiring after being with the program since its inception in 1981.
Mays was selected from six finalists for the position. In addition to her experience with the program, Mays has an extensive background in design and woodworking including study at the Glasgow School of Art, a Bachelor of Architecture from University College Dublin, a National Certificate in Furniture Design and Manufacture, and a Master of Arts in Furniture Design. In addition to her academic training, Mays is a working studio furniture maker along with her partner in YaffeMays.
We join our friends from the College of the Redwoods in welcoming Laura, and we look forward to seeing the program develop under her leadership.
