The Best of Christopher Schwarz. Christopher Schwarz sincerely hopes that the projects, tips and tricks in this new digital magazine are not his best work – the best, he explained, is always yet to come.

“I really hope my best stuff is in the pipeline,” Schwarz noted when I sought his help identifying articles to include in this collection.

It was tough deciding what to include in this collection. His dedication to the traditions of the woodworking craft and promoting hand tools have helped shape new generation of woodworkers. So where do you start?

We had to have a chest – Chris is, after all, well-known for his “Anarchist’s Tool Chest.” But instead of embracing anarchy (again), this edition kicks off with a “Dutch Tool Chest.” This chest offers a lot of storage in a small footprint, goes together fast and is small enough to take on the road.

Hand versus power? Chris shows how to blend the best of both worlds in “Coarse, Medium and Fine.” Learn how to save time with this blended system of surfacing lumber.

Chris’s current “day job” is editor of Lost Art Press, noted for its high-quality reprints of woodworking classics and lost gems. His love of books runs deep — so the “Monticello’s Stacking Bookcases” build seems like a perfect addition to this collection. These practical and attractive bookcases are based on the design of the cases used to house Thomas Jefferson’s library – the nucleus of the Library of Congress.

When is comes to fine furniture, the hammer and nail are the Rodney Dangerfield of joinery – they just don’t get no respect. In “Build Furniture With a Hammer,” Chris shows how the right hammer, driving the right nail, can be a revelation.

Short of felling a tree, sawing is perhaps the most basic function of woodworking. In “How to Saw,” Chris lays out 10 rules (and three tricks) for successful sawing.

At $3.99 for this e-mag, it works out to 80 cents per story — pretty inexpensive tuition for time spent with one of woodworking’s most prolific writers.

You can buy and instantly download the e-mag here.

p.s. And if you want more than just the five articles noted here, more than 200 articles, over 50 projects, nine workbench plans and much more are available in the “Best of Christopher Schwarz CD” available here.
