As primarily a “flat” woodworker, I enjoy and appreciate watching a turner work. The payoff – completing a project some hours (or less!) after you start – is very attractive. And you have the benefit of spending your money on a smaller piece of wood, so you can buy more expensive and exotic pieces and the wood itself can speak.
I have ultimate respect for Tim Yoder, who not only manages to turn out cool and useful projects, but also makes the process entertaining and educational.
Tim Yoder was the host of the award-winning and long-running PBS program, Woodturning Workshop. It’s Popular Woodworking’s privilege to have him creating new programs for us, known as Woodturning with Tim Yoder. These half-hour programs continue Tim’s proud tradition, offering entertainment, education and cool projects every other week on our YouTube channel and our streaming video site. Tim’s vision with all his programs is to “pay it forward” to other turners, and he certainly does that.
To make sure that everyone gets to share in Tim’s knowledge, we will continue to offer the individual episodes as compilation DVDs throughout the year. The first DVD is available for pre-order now and includes the first six episodes of Woodturning with Tim Yoder. Along with some clever, but quick projects, you’ll also get a look at Tim setting up a new lathe for his shop (giving you some great pointers on what to look for in your own lathe).
