The August 2015 issue of Popular Woodworking Magazine mails soon. It features the first installment of a two-part series on building a tool chest with a marquetry panel.

The chest was a joint project between me and Jameel Abraham of Benchcrafted. I built the carcase; he built the carved marquetry lid, which will be featured in the October 2015 issue. Before sending the chest to its final destination, I shot this short video of the chest, both unloaded and partially loaded.

It holds a lot of tools.

That’s one beautiful ass chest. But you might want to go ahead and put a couple dings on the lid and the sides and get it over with. Lol
    Marvelous workmanship.

Chris, this toolchest is an impressive accomplishment (as is the video). Can you share with us who performed the music you used in the backgound of the video?

Beautiful! Just wondering how much does it weigh fully loaded with tools?

    Wonderful!

Just in time btw – I’m about ready to outfit the interior of mine, built following ATC, but using the overall dimensions you’ve hinted at here and there. It’s very helpful to see the interior from multiple angles.

And yeah, I’ll be getting the magazine too!

    To sum up….Just jaw dropping!!!!

    Very nice. And Wally, too!

    It puts Studley to shame.

Outstanding! Although, it does kind of seem like the two of you tied the knot, and this is your hope chest. Not that there is anything wrong with that…..just as long as your wife is into polygamy.

Dannnnnng! Talk about a vanity project, whew! Superb in every way. The hard part will be keeping everyone else’s mitts off it. I’d like to see it one hundred years from now with it’s patina and worn surfaces. Congrats on a marvelous project, Chris, Jameel, et al. Sign me up for the vid/book combo.
