Congratulations (and belated good wishes) to Ralph S. Wilkes, who in April celebrated his 100th birthday. Mr. Wilkes wrote for Popular Woodworking (and other woodworking magazines) in the mid-1990s, after retiring from Keuka College in Keuka Park, N.Y., where for 35 years he was a business manager and treasurer. He now lives in Canandaigua, N.Y., and still likes to talk woodworking. I’ve posted a free, downloadable PDF of one of his articles, “Scrolled Coffee Table,” below for your reading enjoyment (I’m sorry we no longer have the “pull-out plans” for the scrolled cutouts).

Congratulations! Mr. Wilkes, may your chisels be sharp, your plane soles flat and your saws cut true. I wish for many more years of shop time for you.
