Building cabinets is a sub-set of woodworking that uses different skills and knowledge, but as any woodworker knows, putting in your own cabinetry is well worth the effort. Built-in cabinetry, or furniture, adds another element of expertise. Whether it’s fitting cabinetry in your kitchen, or adding a custom set of shelving that seamlessly fits into the design of a room, built-ins are special! The shelving shown above was a custom request by the homeowner to display a prized album collection in a media room. The room itself was designed with the alcove, waiting for the built-ins to finish things off.
Installation is a big part of built-in furniture, and having the right tools on the job site can make things much easier. We were happy to team up with Festool to offer this video series on Mastering Built-in Furniture. Our host, Gregory Paolini, is a professional woodworker and owner of a custom woodworking business specializing in high-end custom installations. He also happens to be a good teacher and author.
The free seven-part series is now live in its entirety on our web site. The seven chapters cover planning, site preparation, installation, basic building skills, doors & drawers and there are sections on custom extras and design inspiration.
Whether you’ve tackled built-ins already or have been thinking of it as a next project, Greg will share his knowledge to improve your skills and give you tips that will make your next built-in project easier and successful.
Here are some supplies and tools we find essential in our everyday work around the shop. We may receive a commission from sales referred by our links; however, we have carefully selected these products for their usefulness and quality.
