As we do with every new issue of Popular Woodworking Magazine, we’ve added free SketchUp models of projects to our collection. This group of models is a great example of how you can use SketchUp as a tool for building. If you download SketchUp and install it on your computer, you can gather tons of information about a project, or customize it to suit your needs, and you only need to learn a few simple tools and commands. If you’d like to give it a try, here is a previous blog post that explains how to Navigate a Model and Explore the Parts and Assemblies.

We have two bookcase projects in this issue, the Jefferson Bookcases, and the “I Can Do That” Bookcases. These are the kinds of projects you may want to stretch, shrink or add on to when you build your version. This blog post tells you how to make changes to a SketchUp Model.
I’ll be adding a post about using the dimension tool in SketchUp, and you can find all our resources for learning SketchUp at this link.
Here are some supplies and tools we find essential in our everyday work around the shop. We may receive a commission from sales referred by our links; however, we have carefully selected these products for their usefulness and quality.
