Dear Chris,
I think at some point everyone has a moment like that! Once I had a 5-1/2″ x 16″ x 36′ offset hip / King rafter (8/12 versus 12/12 pitch) being set with a crane. At a cost of $100 an hour, for the crane, & running 5 frameing crews, 2 sheathing crews, 1 cornice crew, & 1 trim crew. On top of that pressure, the “King Rafter” was a show beam in a cathedral ceiling! It had to be perfect! It wasn’t! I skipped a step in the layout but easily fixed once I realized why it didn’t fit the 1st try. That’s where experience is irreplaceable.
