VIDEO - Three-Minute Dovetails with Frank Klausz
September 30, 2008
Recently Senior Editor Glen D. Huey visited the workshop of Frank Klausz in Pluckemin, N.J., to shoot some photos for an upcoming article on European-style frame saws (look for it in the November 2008 issue of Popular Woodworking). During Glen's visit, he also filmed Frank performing various operations with his bowsaws, including this short but incredible sequence on cutting a set of dovetails in about three minutes. Frank is using a bowsaw blade that was manufactured with a 90° bend in it. So after he saws down to the bottom of the tail or pin he pushes the bent section of the sawblade forward into the cut. That's how he turns the corner so effortlessly. The sawblade isn't made anymore (according to Frank and our research), but boy is it amazing. |
